50 years ago: 1966

Don Marpe hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to lead Freeborn High School to a 5-4 win over Emmons in a Border League baseball game. Dennis Hanson had two hits for the Yeomen.

Al Lindeman threw a two-hit shutout for Alden High School in its 13-0 victory over Delavan. The Blackhawks were led by Marty White, Ron Peterson and Mike Nelson with two hits each.

Mary Kron of Albert Lea won the 1966 Minnesota Women’s Bowling Association Inc. singles title.

 

25 years ago: 1991

The Albert Lea High School baseball team scored three runs in the sixth inning with two outs to tie the game at 5-5 and won the game against Faribault 6-5 in the eighth inning. Catcher Steve Van Maldeghem had four hits and Aaron Davis added two hits.

The Glenville-Emmons High School baseball team raised its Gopher Conference record to 3-1 after defeating Waldorf-Elysian-Morristown 9-6. The Wolverines offense was led by Tracy Monson and Howard Peterson with two hits each.

The Alden-Conger-Freeborn High School baseball team defeated Blooming Prairie 8-5. Winning pitcher Kory Newman had two hits, five RBIs and one home run.

In a Gopher Conference softball game A-C-F defeated Blooming Prairie 10-8. Jenny Dulas was the winning pitcher, and Teresa Trow had two hits and drove in three runs.

 

10 years ago: 2006

Nick Bunz pitched a two-hitter for the ALHS baseball team in its 4-0 won over Austin. Arik Matson and Ben Berhow of the Tigers each had two hits.

The Lake Mills boys’ golf team defeated West Hancock 160-194. Scores for the Bulldogs were Cole Christianson (39), Alex Brandt (40), A.J. Appel (40) and Mick Tiedman (41).

The ALHS girls’ golf team was victorious over Rochester Century 398-400. Tigers scores were Marian Howe (96),  Kaeli Wayne (97), Alli Arnold (102) and Ali Demmer (103).

Tory Somage pitched a three-hitter for NRHEG in its 8-1 victory over St. Clair. Taylor Holland had three hits, including a home run and four RBIs for the Panthers.
