MINNEAPOLIS  — A Minneapolis restaurateur has won the prestigious James Beard award for best Midwestern chef.

Paul Berglund of The Bachelor Farmer took home the top honor in seven Midwestern states at a ceremony in Chicago Monday night that featured the best of the culinary world.

The Bachelor Farmers opened in 2011 in a renovated brick-and-timber warehouse in Minneapolis, where Berglund grows his own herbs and vegetables on the rooftop.

Berglund was one of two Minnesotans who made the final cut in the Midwest category.
