U of M finds new AD

Minnesota athletic director Mark Coyle’s appointment has been unanimously approved by the university’s Board of Regents.

The hiring was finalized Friday with no further comment by the board.

Coyle has a five-year contract with an annual base salary of $850,000 plus benefits and incentives. It takes effect June 1.

The former athletic administrator at Minnesota from 2001-05 has since served as deputy AD at Kentucky and athletic director at both Boise State and Syracuse, where he served for about 10½ months before accepting the post with the Gophers.

Regents chair Dean Johnson said the board “has full confidence” in Coyle’s ability to stabilize and lead the department. He replaces Norwood Teague, who resigned Aug. 7 amid sexual harassment allegations.
