The Albert Lea girls’ golf team encountered a great day on the first day of the section meet at New Prague Golf Club on Tuesday.

The Tigers ended the day in third place by shooting a 379, just nine shots back of Waseca for first place.

Albert Lea got a tremendous round from both Bailey Sandon (86) and Emma Loch (93).

“We needed (Bailey) and (Emma),” said Tigers coach Shawn Riebe. “Some of the other girls were frustrated with their rounds, and they will need to improve for us to have a chance.”

Maddy Carstens finished with a 99 and Sam Nielsen shot a 101.

“We loook forward to a good week of practice,” Reibe said. “It should give us a solid chance next time out.”

The Tigers will return to the links in New Prague on Monday.

Tee time is scheduled for 9 a.m.
