The Albert Lea City Council tabled accepting a bid for a proposed new approximately 4,300-square-foot Albert Lea Municipal Airport arrival and departure building and parking lot reconstruction on Monday. The motion was tabled after bids came in significantly higher than the just under $1.1 million engineer’s estimate formed by Mead & Hunt. It’s good to see officials investing time into why the bids were so much higher than anticipated.
To the Albert Lea Police Department and Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
It’s a turbulent time for some areas when it comes to the relations between law enforcement and the community it serves. We’re glad that in Albert Lea and its surrounding areas, the relationships between local law enforcement officials and the public are strong, positive and stable. We appreciate the support of our local law enforcement and we support them in return.
This week, the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce and Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services had to alert the area about a potential phone scam. The callers were reportedly claiming to represent the Cooperative and asking for payments. If contacted by someone claiming to be from the Cooperative requesting personal or financial information, members should hang up, locate the official organizing phone number online or in the phone directory, and place a call to the official number to confirm details. Those who believe themselves to have been the victim of this or any other scam are encouraged to contact local law enforcement and make a report.
To cooler temperatures in the area.
After weeks of heat and permeating humidity, this week finished off with a much-needed reprieve. Rain storms mid-week helped chase away some of the humidity, improve the air quality and bring temperatures down for a cooler, more relaxing climate. With it only being the middle of summer, we’re sure the cool temperatures and low humidity won’t last, so we plan to enjoy it while we can.
To those involved with the Military All-Star game.
Thank you to American Legion Post 56 and the volunteers who helped to organize the U.S. Military All-Stars game on Thursday. It was a wonderful community event that brought people together. Fans of all ages enjoyed the atmosphere that was about more than baseball, it was about honoring our military.
