Editorial: Love to read? Check out A.L.’s newest library

The Tribune on Monday hosted a grand opening celebration for the newest Little Free Library in Albert Lea.
In addition to finding a new book to read, people could enjoy games, art projects and even some treats.
A Little Free Library is a small book collection where anyone can borrow a book to read, with no time limits and no late fees. Little Free Libraries aim to promote literacy and a love of reading by building free book exchanges. A structure is put together to house the books, and people are welcome to exchange a book for one of the others inside the library.
In our case, the books are housed in an old newspaper rack decorated by our high school summer interns. The library is open 24 hours a day and is right next to our regular newspaper rack near the front entrance to the Tribune at 808 W. Front St.
There are books for every age range, whether it is children or adults, and we hope anyone who chooses can come find a book to read.
We hope those who attended the celebration on Monday had fun, and we encourage those who haven’t stopped by yet to come check it out.
The Tribune’s Little Free Library is one of a handful in the Albert Lea area. Look to this newspaper in future weeks for more information on the others nearby.
