Editorial: Take advantage of opportunity to cast your vote

Want to get involved in local, state or national politics? On Tuesday you have your chance.
This year’s primary election will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. In Albert Lea there is a primary for wards 1 and 5 on the Albert Lea City Council, along with other races on the state and national level.
Four candidates for City Council will be listed on the 1st Ward ballot: George Gillespie, Craig Havener, Harold Kamrath and Rich Murray, though Kamrath has voiced he no longer seeks the seat. In the 5th Ward, there are three candidates: Robert Rasmussen, Paul Shea and Marcelino Talamantes III. Two candidates in each race will move forward to the general election.
People will also be able to vote for candidates in the 1st District Congressional race, the state Senate District 27 race, and for an associate judge on the state Supreme Court and a judge in the Third Judicial District.
Voters will be asked to vote for candidates of one political party only.
Polling locations in Albert Lea are as follows:
• Ward 1: Brookside Education Center, 211 W. Richway Drive
• Ward 2: 335 W. Clark St.
• Ward 3: United Methodist Church, 702 U.S. Highway 69
• Ward 4: Grace Lutheran Church, 918 Garfield Ave.
• Ward 5: City Hall, 221 E. Clark St.
• Ward 6: Halverson Elementary School, 707 10th St.
