To Albert Lea resident Jackie Carstens.
Carstens has been credited with rescuing 54-year-old Kris Springborg of Albert Lea after his sailboat capsized on Fountain Lake north of the hospital last Sunday.
Springborg had reportedly attempted to swim from his overturned boat in the middle of Fountain Lake to the shore, but had become exhausted.
According to police, Carstens had been kayaking earlier in the day and heard Springborg’s calls for help and paddled out to him.
We commend Carstens for her quick thinking and bravery in rescuing Springborg.
Look to the Tribune later this week for a first-hand account from both Carstens and Springboard about the experience.
To the Albert Lea City Council’s approval of temporary stop signs on Frank Hall Drive.
We applaud the Albert Lea City Council for taking the time to review a request for three-way stop signs at the intersection of Frank Hall Drive and Eighth Street.
This is the intersection where 8-year-old Sophie Stultz was struck by a car while riding her bicycle in July. She later died at the hospital.
The project was one of grassroots efforts, involving many neighbors and other people across the community.
The city will review the signs in six months and at that time determine whether to keep them up permanently.
To candidates participating in forums.
We’re getting into the heart of election season, and we appreciate the local candidates who take the time to attend forums. These forums give community members the chance to see how the candidates react under pressure and where they stand on many issues. We look forward to covering other political forums in the next few weeks and encourage community members to come out and watch.
