Jess Glassel lives in Albert Lea with her husband, Dennis, and their pet dogs. She has two daughters, Peyton and Ryleigh. She and her husband started D & J Junk Drawer — which refinishes furniture and creates wall hangings — a little over a year ago.
She took us step by step through how to make this simple religion-based project.
What you will need:
• Staple gun
• Stain or paint of choice
• Paintbrush
• 11-by-16-inch board
• Craft wire
• Fabric or burlap
• Embellishment such as raffia, buttons or hemp twine
-
-
Pick out a piece of wood 11-by-16 inches in size or combine two pieces of wood to make one. Stain or distress wood as desired. In this case, a dark stain was painted onto the wood. Let dry.
-
-
Cut two pieces of fabric or burlap. One piece should be approximately 6 inches wide by about 15 inches long. The second piece should be 6 inches wide by about 20 inches long.
-
-
Fold the shorter piece of fabric or burlap around the board horizontally about one-third from the top of the board. Using a staple gun, staple the fabric to the back of the board. Repeat with the other piece of fabric vertically in the center of the board.
-
-
Gather the fabric together and wrap craft wire around the center.
-
-
Tie with an embellishment such as raffia or hemp string or decorate with a button.
