Albert Lea boys’ golf tees off at The Oaks in Hayfield

The Albert Lea boys’ golf team started its season off on Saturday with the Hayfield Invitationalat The Oaks.
The Tigers finished in the top half of the standings with a team score of 381.
Fifteen teams competed in the invitational.
“This was a great invite to get our season underway,” Tigers coach Max Jeffrey said. “The boys had to battle some very windy conditions.”
Albert Lea has a somewhat experienced golf team, but it was the young guys who got the turn on Saturday.
Of the Tigers top four scores, junior Spencer Chico was the oldest. He shot a 95.
Albert Lea’s lowest score of the day came from freshman Danny Chalmers. Chalmers’ freshman teammate, Marty Syverson, shot a 97 and sophomore Auslund Barker shot a 96.
“I’m very proud of their effort, body language and attitude (today),” Jeffrey said of his young golfers. “It’s the first step and we will continue to improve.”
Albert Lea will host a Big Nine meet on April 17 at Green Lea.
Tee time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
