Albert Lea had three golfers have good outings Friday, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Rochester John Marshall in its duel.
The Rockets bested the Tigers by 10 strokes, 338-348.
Bergan Lundak was Albert Lea’s best golfer, as he led the Tigers with a round of 80.
“I was very proud of Bergan’s round today,” Tigers coach Max Jeffrey said. “He played a solid back nine. He is still looking to break 80 in a match. I think he can get that done.”
Lundak’s 38 on the back nine was the lowest score posted by any golfer on Friday.
Freshman Danny Chalmers shot an 86 and his brother, Sam, shot an 89 for the Tigers.
While the scores haven’t been what the Albert Lea coach has wanted in the early part of the season, Jeffrey said it looks like the Tigers are slowly rounding into form.
“We keep talking as a team about playing our best golf by the end of May,” he said. “We have some young guys competing in varsity matches for the first time. It’s a process and they just have to learn to trust their swings.”
Albert Lea will have a quick turnaround, as its next match is in Byron on Monday.
The Tigers will be partaking in a 17-team meet that features six Big Nine Conference schools.
