50 years ago: 1967
• The Albert Lea High School baseball team defeated Fairmont 2-1 in 10 innings. Harold Schuhmacher had two hits for the Tigers. Schuhmacher, Byron Nelson and Steve Westland each hit a double.
• Steve Erickson shot an 83 to lead the ALHS golf team to a 341-346 victory over Fairmont.
• The Windjammers from Albert Lea won the Albert Lea women’s volleyball league. Team members were Dee Dunn, Margie Schock, Alice Petersen, Dottie Nieboer, Carol Nelson, Norma Robson and Neva Lembke.
• Al Lindeman threw a three-hitter, two triples and three RBI’s for the Alden High School baseball team in its 4-1 victory over Freeborn.
25 years ago: 1992
• The ALHS baseball team remained undefeated in the Big Nine Conference with a 4-0 record after defeating Owatonna 2-1. Winning pitcher Mike Piechowski pitched a three-hit, complete game for the Tigers. Steve Brigger had two hits for the Tigers.
• Joe Nelson was medalist with a 41 for the United South Central golf team in its 180-189 win over NRHEG. Other scores for USC were Matt Johnson (44), Dan Miller (47) and Ryan Peterson (48).
• Chris Prosser recorded the first hole-in-one of the season at Green Lea Golf Course at the 251-yard, par 4 on hole No. 12.
• The Freeborn County Softball Hall of Fame, founded in 1967, named new members George Goodnature, Barry Hoffman, Lloyd Hareid, Orlin Erickson and Larry Williamson.
10 years ago: 2007
• The USC boys’ golf team defeated NRHEG 190-192. Scores for the Rebels were medalist Alex Pederson (43), Jarod Ludeman (45), Jeff Hassing and Erin Willaby with 51 each. Josh Beatty led the Panthers with a 44.
• The USC girls’ golf team also were victorious over NRHEG by a score of 230-233. The top four scores for the Rebels were Kristen Amberg (53), Stephanie Herman (58), Christi Johnson (59) and Jessica Stensrud (60).
• The ALHS girls’ golf team defeated Rochester Century 395-405. Scores for the Tigers were Kelli Hanson (94), Abby Leach (96), Ali Demmer (101) and Taylor Nelson (104).
• The Northwood-Kensett girls’ golf team defeated Riceville 212-233 with medalist Lauren Hartman’s (44) leading the win.
