To Albert Lea Tribune carriers.
Today marks the last day newspaper carriers will deliver your paper. Starting Monday, the Tribune will be delivered by letter carriers with the United States Postal Service through the mail.
We thank the dedicated newspaper carriers for their hard work — some for several years. Be sure to thank your carrier today, too, if you see them.
To the Alden-Conger supermileage team.
Year after year, the Alden-Conger supermileage team impresses us. The team has broken many records, and won third place at a world championship in London last year. This year, it is hoping to break more records at the Shell Eco-Marathon championship in Detroit. The team traveled there this week for the challenge, and as of press time, we ave not heard the results of this year’s competition. We look forward to hearing the outcome.
To the Albert Lea Police Department.
Congratulations to the Albert Lea Police Department, which was recognized Monday with an award by the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association.
The award was for the Police Department’s retail loss-prevention program that was implemented in the community three years ago. Through the program, police partner with store owners in sharing data, including theft suspect information, and commit to a rapid response.
It has proven successful, and retailers have had decreases in their losses since the partnership began.
We commend the Police Department for the program and for all the work officers do in the community.
To the loss of 70 jobs at Streater.
We were saddened to hear the news Thursday afternoon that a portion of work being done at longtime Albert Lea factory Streater will move to a sister company in Arkansas.
The move will result in the loss of about 70 jobs in Albert Lea.
While we recognize this is a business decision, it is still sad to see businesses move portions or all of their operations from the community.
We wish the employees who will lose their jobs the best in finding new employment. There are an abundance of jobs right now in the community, so hopefully the task is an easy one.
