Letter: Agriculture must remain at top of mind in Minnesota
Published 9:00 am Sunday, April 9, 2017
Minnesota is the fifth-highest agricultural producing state in the nation. With over 70,000 farms in Minnesota, farming is a way of life for many of our residents, and most of us are impacted directly and indirectly by the agricultural community.
Right now, farming as we know it is changing. While many of us are facing hard times, there is light at the end of the tunnel. We are living in one of the most innovative times since the industrial revolution — new technologies are constantly being developed to make life easier, better and more efficient.
It is crucial for farmers that they have opportunities to utilize the latest technology and most innovative products available. These innovations can help farmers with everything from growing better quality crops and higher yields to helping find ways to spend less money, while being more efficient.
When agricultural companies like Bayer and Monsanto, Dow and DuPont finalize their mergers, there will be greater opportunity for strengthened research and development that can provide new tools and solutions for our farming community.
Farmers are voicing their concerns about the current state of agricultural and are worried about their future profitability. We must ensure that agricultural issues remain at top of mind in order for the industry to keep moving forward, and that the best interests of Minnesota are supported.
