Letter: Questions surround voluntary pre-k
Published 10:05 pm Tuesday, April 25, 2017
Your article regarding voluntary pre-k (i.e. preschool) sounds great, but you don’t mention what happens to all the licensed providers and companies that provide all sorts of curricullum to them to assist in their teaching those 3- to 4-year-olds up until now. You don’t mention the centers that will be affected, not to mention how DHS will have to change all their laws regarding childcare because these people will need them to in order to survive. What about classroom space? You have sensationalized this idea but what happens to everyone with this change? What about busing? How is this going to affect the older children who have to be in school? Will there be a penalty for children who don’t go? What about religion? If you are going to talk about how positive this idea is, I wish you would also talk about what happens to everyone who has been doing the work up until now. Thank you.
