Level 3 predatory offender Michael James Costa was taken into custody over the weekend in California.

Costa was on fugitive status after absconding from his supervised release in Rochester.

Costa has a criminal history that includes two convictions for criminal sexual conduct against known juvenile females — in 2004 and 2012. He also has two convictions for failing to register as a predatory offender.

Intelligence information led investigators to California, where with the assistance of local law enforcement, Costa was arrested near Van Nuys. He is in custody in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles.
