The Albert Lea boys’ tennis team found trouble when they traveled to Mankato West for a match on Monday.
The Scarlets took three of the four singles’ matches en route to a 5-2 victory over the Tigers.
Albert Lea’s Austin Dulitz won the only singles match over Mankato West’s Ford Johnson 26, 6-4, 6-3, but the rest of the Tigers found it tough to get anything going.
In doubles, Albert Lea’s team of Eric Maier and Cole Inderlie defeated Cadan Bock and Jonas Fu 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7).
Maier played in his first match of the season, and Albert Lea head coach Chris Withers had some good things to say about the junior.
“(Eric) didn’t know he was playing on varsity until minutes before we started,” Withers said. “I am excited for him. He stepped up for us today and won his first varsity match.”
Albert Lea will host Owatonna on Thursday.
