The Tigers finish 4th at Faribault

For the first time all season, the Albert Lea girls’ golf team played under good weather conditions at the Faribault invite on Friday afternoon.
A day after dispatching Rochester John Marshall in a dual, the Tigers took fourth place out of 13 teams with a team score of 392.
Albert Lea’s Maddy Carstens was on her game, as she shot an 89 to lead the Tigers and individually finish in sixth place.
However, despite their stellar play, the Tigers were still not pleased, which has become a reoccurring theme for Albert Lea early in the season.
“The girls were still frustrated with their play today,” Tigers coach Shawn Riebe said. “They all feel they have a lot better game than what they are putting out right now.”
Whatever the Tigers might think, they outplayed five other Big Nine Conference teams at the invite.
Chanhassen ran away with first place, finishing with a score of 344 — 38 shots better than second-place Lakeville South.
One big thing Riebe saw from his team Friday was the positivity the Tigers showed on a tough course.
“This was a great showing on a tough golf course,” Riebe said. “I am proud of the girls today with their more positive attitudes and talking about the good shots. (This) was a big step in the right direction for us.”
Albert Lea will have some time to practice between now and its next match, which will be a triangular in Rochester on Tuesday.
