Chuck Anderson: Teammate singled in to give Tigers a 1-0 win

50 years ago: 1967
• Chuck Slette singled in Steve Westland in the last inning for the Albert Lea High School baseball team and gave the Tigers a 1-0 win over Mason City.
• The Alden High School baseball team remained unbeaten in the Border League at 5-0 after defeating Frost 3-2. Eighth grader Ross Svennings singled two runs home in the 8th inning for the victory. Winning pitcher Al Lindeman had 15 strikeouts and had three hits.
• Also in the Border League, Emmons defeated Delavan 11-1. Eighth-grader Paul Lair threw a one-hitter and Phil Christensen had two hits.
• Glenville improved to 3-1 after defeating Rose Creek 6-1. Dick Grinolds allowed three hits and John Dahlen had three hits in four at-bats for the Trojans.
• Kurt Wilke, Mike Daleiden and Fred Neibuhr won their singles matches and Daleiden and Neibuhr won their doubles match to give the ALHS tennis team a 4-3 victory over Fairmont.
25 years ago: 1992
• The Room Service team won the 1991-92 Albert Lea Women’s “C” Laker volleyball league. Team members were Karen Pacowsky, Jodi Remakel, Judy Valenta, Sandy Classon, Diane Simon, Dawn Gilbertson and Sue Wangsness.
• The Lou-Rich team won the 1991-92 Albert Lea Men’s “B” basketball league title. Team members were Paul Olson, Jon Christiansen, Scott Woitas, Stu Hendrickson, Steve Munson, Steve Enderson and Blake Hammer.
• Marci Newman threw a four-hitter for the Alden-Conger softball team in their 12-0 win over Blooming Prairie.
• The ALHS boys tennis team won its first meet of the year 5-2 over Faribault 5-2. Winners in singles were Dean Hanson, Nate Bibus and Chris Fair and in No. 1 doubles (Eric Johnson and Jake Veldman) and No. 3 doubles (Rian Stallkamp and Dave Qual).
10 years ago: 2007
• Kaylee Newman pitched a two-hit shutout for A-C in its 10-0 victory. Abby Christensen had three hits for the Knights.
• The Lake Mills boys’ golf team defeated Belmond 168 to 178 and Osage 182 in a triangular. Scores for the Bulldogs were Alex Brandt (40), Mick Tiedman and Casey Tiedman (42) and A. J. Appel (44).
• The A-C baseball team defeated Glenville-Emmons 4-3. Matt Bremseth was the winning pitcher.
