The Ellendale Community Action Group in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota – North Dakota chapter will sponsor the first annual Ellendale Days 2.5k Run/Walk Walk to End Alzheimer’s at 6 p.m. June 22.
Interested community members, families or friends of persons living with Alzheimer’s are invited to start teams to participate in the community event to help raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Participants of all ages and abilities are invited to help reclaim the future for millions. All proceeds from the event will go towards the Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter for Alzheimer’s.
The run/walk will start at Ellendale Municipal Liquor, go south to Eighth Avenue, head west to Crown Ridge and circle it twice before heading back to the downtown area.
An area honorary family has been designated and they will be on hand to start the race. Participating teams may include families, business, church or school groups and community, civic and/or youth groups.
According to a press release, friends and family teams are at the heart of each Walk to End Alzheimer’s event. The individuals can come together as a way to fight back when a friend or family member has been affected by the disease. At the same time, team members can get involved in this community activity and move toward their own health and wellness goals.
Area businesses are also contributing to sponsor the event.
Volunteers are needed to help along the route. Anyone interested in donating their time is asked to contact Allison Muilenburg at 507-684-3351. Participants and teams are asked to register at Floors4U in Ellendale or by calling Muilenburg.
All donations for the event are tax deductible.
The event will kick off the Ellendale Days summer celebration. The event is anticipated to become an annual event and organizers hope the event will draw participants from surrounding communities.
