A Lake Mills man charged in connection with the theft of firearms, ammunition and tools in January from a Manchester residence pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Freeborn County District Court.
Jeromy Eugene Dann, 35, is charged with 13 counts of felony theft, as well as one count of first-degree criminal damage to property and second-degree burglary.
Court documents state Dann was charged after he was arrested early in the morning Jan. 22 following a pursuit after an alleged burglary in Hayward.
Dann was allegedly in possession of .12-gauge shotgun ammunition. Distinctive tread on boots that were seized from Dann matched the tread found at the scene from the alleged Jan. 8 burglary, court documents state.
The alleged victim stated the house was broken into and items — two Cabela’s gun safes totaling 11 firearms, two other firearms in the residence, ammunition and tools — were stolen. Damage to the alleged victim’s vehicle and doors were estimated at more than $2,000.
The safes were reportedly found broken open with the firearms missing Jan. 15. Tread from Dann’s boots was found in the snow where the safes were dumped, court documents state.
Items recovered from Dann’s truck after the chase Jan. 22 were identified by the alleged victim as the items stolen, and deputies reportedly recovered around 25 tools two days later that were identified by the alleged victim as items that were taken from him.
In a separate file, Dann is charged with second-degree burglary after items recovered from his truck reportedly matched a burglary that took place in December on 770th Avenue in Freeborn County. He pleaded not guilty to that charge Tuesday.
Dann is charged with second-degree assault, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, possessing ammunition or a firearm with a previous felony conviction and second-degree burglary from the Hayward burglary.
Jury trials on the three files are scheduled to begin July 11, if the cases have not been settled by then.
