Rebels finish season with a loss

The softball season for United South Central came to an end sooner than the Rebels would have liked.
On Monday, United South Central fell to Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton by a score of 5-3.
“Tough game,” USC coach Paul Meyer said. “We just haven’t been able to get over our hitting slump. We had runners throughout the game, but just couldn’t come up with the big hit for the big inning.”
Rebels starting pitcher Lizzy Baird battled inside the circle. She pitched a complete game and struck out seven batters over seven innings.
“Lizzy battled on the mound,” Meyer said. “She even fought through a hard line-drive that hit her in the foot early in the game.”
In the end, the effort wasn’t enough. The Rebels ended the season with a record of 3-16, but that was something Meyer said didn’t fairly represent his club.
“Our record doesn’t show the progress this team made throughout the year,” he said. “With everyone coming back and some very talented, younger players moving up to high school next year, the future is bright for the team.”
