The Albert Lea girls’ golf team had a tough, but somewhat successful day on the course in the first round of sections on Friday in New Prague.

In the 16-team section, the Tigers finished the day in fourth place with a team score of 396.

Jordan is in first place and up 21 strokes on St. Peter, which is in second place.

“We kind of shot ourselves in the foot today,” Tigers coach Shawn Riebe said. “The mental game continues to kill us. It has just been one of those years where we just can’t seem to find it. The girls were trying to grind it out and were just so frustrated.”

But with new life having made it to the second day, Riebe is hoping his team can finish on a strong note.

“We are going to head into round two trying to make a statement that we can play.”
