Tigers outperform triangular opponents

The Albert Lea girls’ golf team hosted a triangular with Fairmont and Waseca Tuesday afternoon at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.
The Tigers outperformed their opponents and won by 20 strokes with a score of 367.
The performance was enough to make head coach Shawn Riebe think his team is headed in the right direction.
“We are finally starting to see our potential,” he said. “We had a few girls who played really good rounds today.”
Among the girls who stood out were Natalie Nafzger, who led the team with an 89; and Emma Loch and Lexie Simon, each shooting a 91. Charley Fleek shot a 96.
While Albert Lea came out winning, Riebe still saw some frustration out on the course.
“We had some girls who struggled today and were frustrated,” he said. “I was pleased with how some of the girls, who were struggling with ball striking, hung in there and scored with their short games. As coaches, that is something we really emphasize.”
Albert Lea has four regular season meets left, and this win should give the Tigers some momentum.
“If we continue to let bad things go and keep the confidence we are finding, this could be a fun season finish,” Riebe said.
Albert Lea will be in Owatonna on Thursday.
