Tigers struggle during Owatonna tourney

The Albert Lea girls’ golf team hit the links early Thursday morning in Owatonna for a seven-team meet at Owatonna Country Club.
The Tigers didn’t golf their best, finishing fourth with a team score of 422.
“This was just a rough day for us on a very difficult course,” Tigers coach Shawn Riebe said after the match. “We tried to prepare the girls for the difficulty of the Owatonna Country Club, but it was just a struggle.”
Each Tiger golfer failed to shoot under 100, with Maddy Carstens finishing at that mark. Lexie Simon (106), Emma Loch (107) and Charley Fleek (109) followed Carstens.
Not only did Albert Lea see high scores, but every other team did as well.
“The course itself is tough, but the greens were really fast with tough pin placements,” Riebe said.
What worried Riebe more than the high scores was the lack of consistency that has seemed to elude the team all season.
“As a team, we continue to struggle with consistency, which is leading to frustration,” he said. “Hopefully this improves with confidence building. If we can get four of the girls to shoot their potential at the same meet, we will be in great shape.”
Albert Lea will have a chance to do just that as it will host Faribault and Winona Friday at Wedgewood Cove.
Tee off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
