After an appearance in the state tournament in 2016, the Albert Lea boys’ golf team had some ground to make up on the second day of section golf on Monday.
The Tigers started in third place, but found it difficult to make up ground throughout the day.
Albert Lea shot five strokes worse (352) than on the first day, as it stayed stuck in third place.
“I’m very proud of our team today,” Tigers coach Max Jeffrey said. “We talked on the ride up that there was no pressure on us and we just had to go play to the best of our ability.”
Sam Chalmers finished his career with an 86 to lead the Tigers.
“Sam has had a good golf career for Albert Lea,” Jeffrey said. “He’s a good student, a three-sport athlete and just a wonderful young man. He has a bright future.”
Danny Chalmers and Spencer Chicos each shot an 88. Logan Howe shot a 90.
“It was great to see Spencer and Logan improve on the second day,” Jeffrey said. “We have some young guys who have gotten some great experiences this year. They need to continue to play golf during the summer to improve and I think they will do that.”
