50 years ago: 1967
• In first round District 2 baseball, Albert Lea High School was shut out by Austin 2-0 and Alden defeated Hayfield 6-2. Winning pitcher Al Lindeman recorded 16 strikeouts for the Blackhawks.
• ALHS won the Region 1 track and field meet with 36 points to Austin and Northfield with 29 points to tie for second place. First-place finishes for the Tigers were Craig Pederson in the 100 and 200-yard dashes, Darrel Gavle in the shot put and Dan Doty in the high jump.
• Named to the Big Nine All-Conference baseball first team from ALHS was catcher Byron Nelson. Named to the second team were pitcher Larry Reynen and first baseman Harold Schuhmacher.
• In amateur baseball Alden defeated Hayward 17-3 in a State Line game. Dick Wayne was the winning pitcher.
25 years ago: 1992
• The ALHS baseball team was defeated by Apple Valley 8-1. The Tigers were eliminated in the second round by Eagan 10-3.
• The Albert Lea U-14 soccer team shut out Lakeville 5-0.
• The Albert Lea Elks U-12 boys soccer team defeated Northfield 4-1. Scoring goals for Albert Lea were Zach Flugum (2), Luke Breck and Nick Flugum.
• The Albert Lea Colonels baseball team swept a double header from Janesville 16-7 and 12-2. The winning pitcher in game one was Jamie Beck. Derek Fleek had three hits for the Colonels. Tom Heimerman threw a four-hitter for the win in game two. Fleek and Scott Woitas each had three hits.
• The Power House Bar of Freeborn placed fifth in the Men’s team regular division in the World’s Largest Pool Tournament. Team members were Tony Garza, Larry Peck, Mike Boone, Charlie Gartza, Mark Lair and Joe Audino.
10 years ago: 2007
• In baseball Sub-Section 2AA Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 9-4 defeated NRHEG. Corbin Pederson hit a two-run homer for the Panthers.
• The Alden-Conger baseball season ended after Truman scored a 4-3 win. Alex Bute hit a triple for the Knights. The Knights ended the season with an 8-8 record.
