An Albert Lea man who reportedly injured a person during a fall 2015 robbery pleaded not guilty to first-degree aggravated robbery last week in Freeborn County District Court.

Isaiah Ray Talamantes

Court documents state Isaiah Ray Talamantes, 22, was charged after the alleged victim — who was known to Talamantes — said a van pulled up and parked ahead of him Oct. 10, 2015, as he was traveling north on Euclid Avenue. Talamantes, who allegedly approached the alleged victim, reportedly punched him in the face and threatened to severely harm or kill him. He told the alleged victim to give him his iPhone and wallet. After receiving the items, Talamantes allegedly emptied the wallet of cash, a gift card and a rewards card before he dropped the wallet on the ground.

Court documents state Talamantes threatened to jump the person — who reportedly had redness and swelling around his right eye — if he called the police.

Someone who was known to Talamantes said she believed he probably became upset because she recently called and yelled at him.

Court documents state Talamantes refused to come to the police station and swore at an officer the following day.

In a separate file, Talamantes pleaded not guilty to motor vehicle theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle tied to a June 2015 alleged incident. Pre-trial hearings on the two files are scheduled for Oct. 13, and jury trials are scheduled for Oct. 24, if the cases have not been settled by then.

First-degree aggravated robbery carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $35,000 fine.
