Post 56 dominates Rochester

OWATONNA — The Albert Lea American Legion baseball team dominated Rochester Mayo in tournament action Saturday morning. Post 56 had some stellar pitching, as well as some hot bats to beat the Redhawks, 13-3.

Parker Andersen was the starting pitcher for Albert Lea. Anderson pitched 7 1/3 innings, striking out five batters and giving up three hits. He was relieved with one out in the eighth inning by Jake Bordewick, who closed out the game. He pitched for 2/3 of an inning, recording one strikeout and zero runs.

After a quick first inning, Albert Lea was the first team to score in the bottom of the second. Designated hitter Cody Ball brought the first runs across with a two-RBI double. Garret Piechowski hit in a third run with an RBI single.

Post 56 would add more runs to its total in the fifth inning. An RBI double from Alex Bledsoe scored one run and Parker Mullenbach scored a run after coming home on a passed ball.

Already leading 5-0, Albert Lea opened up its lead even wider in the sixth. An error allowed Bledsoe to score another run, and a two-RBI double from Mullenbach brought the lead up to 8-0.

Rochester would get its first run of the game in the seventh inning due to an error and an RBI single from AJ Thompson. They would add another in the eighth after a base hit RBI from Chris Serano.

Post 56 would end the game early, however, after a five-run eighth inning. Another RBI double from Mullenbach, an RBI hit from Logan Stadhiem, an error and two passed balls led to an additional five runs for Albert Lea.

Albert Lea scored 13 runs on 15 hits and recorded two errors. Rochester scored three runs on eight hits and recorded four errors.

Post 65 moved on to play Owatonna in the next round of the sub-state tournament Saturday afternoon. Look back to the Tribune for more results as they become available.
