This week is Minnesota Farmers Market Week, and across the state this week the spotlight will be on markets such as the Albert Lea Farmers Market.
Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton issued a special proclamation for the week, recognizing the importance of the markets and the ability they have to provide fresh, affordable, convenient and healthy products to consumers.
The proclamation states farmers markets “play a key role in developing local and regional food systems that support the sustainability of family farms and revitalize rural communities.”
They also offer electronic benefits for recipients of the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program and opportunities for women, infants and children participating in WIC.
Take a chance this week to support the vendors of the Albert Lea Farmers Market.
The market is open from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. today at the North Broadway parking lot and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday in front of Herberger’s at Northbridge Mall.
Staff from Minnesota Grown will be at the Albert Lea Farmers Market today and will feature the local market on social media.
