Kathy Brekke, 1947-2017

Kathy M. Brekke, 70, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, at her home, surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, 2210 E. Main St. in Albert Lea. The Rev. Randy Cirksena will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and again one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea at a later date.
Kathy Marie Brekke was born April 24, 1947, in Worthington to her parents Alfred and Joyce Schlarbaum.
On Oct. 21, 1972, she was united in marriage to Dale M. Brekke at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. To this union, the couple was blessed with two children.
Kathy was a lifetime resident of Freeborn County. She worked for several abstract companies, People’s Savings & Loan and Americana Bank. She also worked for a while for Coldwell Banker. Her last employment was with State Farm at the Barn with Randy Cirksena, which she loved.
Besides her work, Kathy volunteered at Albert Lea Community Theatre. She wore many hats at the theater, which she loved. She made many friends through the theater and her work.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joyce and Alfred Schlarbaum; brothers-in-law Steve Tuttle and Larry Brekke; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Brekke.
She leaves behind her husband of 45 years, Dale Brekke, of Emmons; children Robert (Deanna) Brekke of Winona and Pam (Ray) Folven of Emmons; grandchildren Allyce (Kelly) Kozlowski, Samantha (Shawn) Dolsen, Wes (Emily) Brekke, Jonathan (Kendra) Folven and Nathanial “Nano” Folven; great-grandchildren Brady, Camden, Kendall and Jordyn Kozlowski, Lehla Dolsen, Gracie and Mayah Folven and Griffin Brekke; brothers David Schlarbaum (significant other, Denise) and Bob (Delores) Mason; sisters Karen (Duane) Miner, Linda (Ole) Olson and Pat (Darrel) Amundson; special friends Rose Kauffman and Kathy Huston; the breakfast crew, card club, book club, theater friends Helen Zahller and Joan Grorud, as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
