With the efforts of retired music teacher Teresa Bergene, second-graders at Sibley Elementary have earned a grant only offered to eight schools — four urban and four rural — in the state of Minnesota. The grant merges science and art into one, and students will learn how to make observations. Students will learn that art is all around them. With the grant comes 15 interactive lessons that will be co-taught with a resident artist, who happens to have a degree in botany. Students will participate in a field trip or two and design a T-shirt, and will also participate in a community outreach project. - Provided
