Blizzard warning expands into Albert Lea

The National Weather Service has expanded its blizzard warning to include more of south central Minnesota, including Albert Lea.

The warning is in effect until midnight today.

Additional snow accumulations of 8 to 13 inches are expected.

According to the weather agency, travel will be dangerous to impossible, including during the evening commute. The Minnesota Department of Transportation lists roads in Albert Lea and the surrounding area as completely covered, and travel is not advised on roads west of Alden.

Winds gusting as high as 40 mph will cause whiteout conditions in blowing snow, and significant drifting of snow is likely.
