The Albert Lea area is in a winter storm warning as snow continues across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, total snowfall amounts from the storm will range from 5 to 10 inches across the area. An additional 1 to 3 inches are expected to fall today.
The warning was in effect from 10 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. today.
An initial band of rain and snow was expected to develop across the far western part of the state Friday afternoon, spreading east as the day progresses. Precipitation was expected to begin as a mix of rain and snow before transitioning to snow Friday evening.
The winter storm warning also covers Meeker, McLeod, Sibley, Nicollet, Le Sueur, Blue Earth, Waseca and Steele counties.
The winter storm warning designation means severe winter weather conditions will make travel “very hazardous or impossible.”
The National Weather Service advised keeping an extra flashlight, food and water in vehicles in case of emergency.
