50 years ago: 1968
• In the last Albert Lea High School basketball game of the season, the Tigers defeated St. Paul Humboldt, 80-59. The Tigers were led by Harold Schumacher with 14 points and Larry Brandt with 13.
• The Austin Packers defeated the ALHS basketball team 71-46 and Hayfield defeated Alden 53-45 in first-round basketball games in District 2. Gary Morgan scored 21 points for the Packers and Jay Gustafson scored 16 points for the Tigers. The Tigers season record finished at 7-12. Bill Gross scored 23 points for Hayfield and Ron Peterson scored 15 points for Alden. Hayfield won its 23rd straight game when it defeated Austin 70-67 in overtime to win the District 2 title. Gross scored 29 points for Hayfield.
25 years ago: 1993
• In first-round Sub-Section 1A of Section 2A high school basketball, Glenville-Emmons defeated NRHEG, 87-70. John VanBeek scored 32 points and had 14 rebounds, and Lane Vanek added 21 points for the Wolverines. Terry Truebenbach scored 19 points, Darian Baker 15, Greg Schultz 13 and Neil Bentley 12 for the Panthers.
• Eagen defeated the ALHS boys’ basketball team 91-68 in a first-round game in Section 1AA. The Tigers were led by Lee Kuiters with 18 points, Paul Kenis with 14 and Trent Struck with 12.
• Senior Chris Boysen of the ALHS basketball team was named to the 1992/93 Big Nine Conference All-Conference boys’ basketball team.
10 years ago: 2008
• Named to the 2007-08 Big Nine Conference All-Conference girls’ hockey team from ALHS were Jenna Christensen and Lauren Klick. Receiving honorable mention was Sophia Jepson.
• North Dakota State juniors Ben Woodside, a graduate of ALHS, and Brett Winkelman were named to the All-Summit League Men’s Basketball First Team.
• Receiving 2007-08 Honorable Mention on the Minnesota All-State Hockey Team from ALHS were Casey Woodside, Jared Bowman and Adam Royce.
• Paul Little scored 18 points and Sam Hallman 12 for Alden-Conger in their 48-40 basketball victory over Medford.
