It may be spring, but winter weather is on its way.
According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm watch is in effect for Albert Lea and much of southern Minnesota from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning, with heavy snow likely. Snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches are possible.
Snow will develop across the Dakotas and build eastward into west central Minnesota late Friday morning, reaching east central Minnesota Friday evening. The Weather Service states there may be a brief period of rain before turning to heavy snow as temperatures cool quickly.
People should plan on difficult travel conditions.
Winds gusting as high as 40 mph could cause patchy blowing and drifting snow.
