5 things to do this weekend
Published 8:24 pm Wednesday, April 4, 2018
1.Healthy kids running series
Sunday is the first leg of a five-week running program for children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The races will take place once a week on Sundays with different running events for children to conquer, including the 50- and 75-yard dash, the quarter mile, the half mile and the mile. Runners compete each week, and the series will end with a trophy for the top boy and girl in each age division. The series starts at 4 p.m. Sunday at Southwest Middle School.
2. Family mystery movie
If it’s time for a lazy Sunday afternoon, there’s a movie for that. Albert Lea Family Y and Albert Lea Parks and Recreation Department are sponsoring a family mystery movie from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. The movie choice will be a surprise for attendees.
3. Prairie Fire
Hawthorne Elementary School students are working with Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre this week to present a rock ’n’ roll version of the story of Cinderella. The students have been practicing this week with two professional actors/directors from Prairie Fire and will perform twice: 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. Friday.
4. Women’s symposium
It’s not the typical girlfriend outing, but it doesn’t hurt to mix it up with the Women’s Health and Well-Being Symposium from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. The symposium, sponsored by Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea, will be a chance to learn about how resiliency can affect physical and mental health, including topics such as work-life balance, gratitude and self-care. The program is intended to inspire, invigorate and educate women.
5. The Duttons
It’s a family affair Saturday night as the Duttons roll into Alden for a performance in the Alden-Conger High School gymnasium. The relatives will perform an array of genres from bluegrass to classical on a slew of instruments. Throw in some singing, dancing and national recognition, and you’ve got the Duttons. The show begins at 7 p.m. Saturday.
