Each year the Minnesota Department of Transportation honors the workers who have died on the job. This year, MnDOT District 6 have added a new name to the Workers Memorial List after discovering a death in 1962 was overlooked when the list was created.

On Sept. 13, 1962, John Biever was working on a Highway 16 bridge near Houston in Houston County when he was hit by a pickup truck and killed. He was the first bridge maintenance worker killed while at work on a bridge. Members of Biever’s family will attend the event Thursday in Rochester.

According to a press release, the annual event also marks an important opportunity to remind motorists their help is needed to keep workers safe in the work zones.
