Albert Lea mayoral candidates will face off in a forum Aug. 6, a little more than a week before the primary election.
The forum will take place from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Albert Lea City Hall.
Incumbent Mayor Vern Rasmussen Jr. and challengers George Marin and John Severtson are slated to attend.
The public is invited to attend.
Rasmussen, a physical therapist at Mayo Clinic Health System at Health Reach, was first elected to the Albert Lea City Council in 2004 as the 1st Ward councilor. He served in that capacity until 2010, when he was elected to his first term as mayor. He served two two-year terms as mayor before being elected to a four-year term in 2014.
Marin, who served on the City Council from 2000 through 2008 and again from 2013 through 2016, is the pastor of Grace Christian Church.
Severtson, who served on the council from 1985 to 1989 and from 2005 to 2009, is retired from Enderes Tools.
During the forum, there will be an opportunity for each candidate to make an opening statement, and the balance of the forum will consist of written questions supplied by audience members, according to a press release from the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce, which is hosting the event.
To submit a question, prior to the forum, send it in an email to director@albertlea.org.
Chamber governmental affairs committee members will be responsible for gathering and submitting the written questions. The panel moderator will read the questions submitted. Questions will be directed, unless otherwise indicated, on a rotation basis.
All candidates will be allowed to answer if they so desire. Answers will be limited to one minute to address the greatest number of questions.
The event will be broadcast live on the government channel.
