Current school board vice chairman Dave Klatt filed Wednesday to run for another term on the Albert Lea Area Schools school board.
Klatt is one of three school board members whose spots are up for re-election this November. There is also one position being added to the board to be voted on.
“I’ve enjoyed my last almost four years, and I feel like we got a lot of good things accomplished for the kids and just, honestly, didn’t feel that the work was totally done,” Klatt said.
He mentioned the referendum passed in May as an example, which saw taxpayers approving $24.615 million worth of updates to Hammer Athletic Complex, Halverson Elementary School and Albert Lea High School. Klatt said it is fun to be a part of something he knows the community will be proud of for years to come.
Klatt is approaching the end of his first term on the school board, during which time he saw the implementation of e-learning days as well as the early start calendar. He said he wants to watch graduation rates continue to increase and vocational offerings expand over the next four years.
“I just want to, basically, just want our educational process get a little bit sharper in all that we do,” Klatt said.
According to Katt, one of his biggest reasons for filing again was to apply gained experience being a member of the school board the first time around.
“Each year you’re a member of any board … as you learn more history, I believe you become more valuable to that board, valuable to that organization,” Klatt said.
Filing to run should be done at the school district office on or before Aug. 14.
