A local classic rock station is in the process of selling to a Hastings-based media company.

Power 96 reached a purchase agreement with D&Z Media LLC earlier this month, said Hometown Broadcasting owner Greg Jensen.

D&Z Media, owned by husband-and-wife Daniel and Barbara Massman, is acquiring the radio station from Hometown Broadcasting Inc. for $750,000, pending approval from the Federal Communications Commission.

“They’ll do a real fine job in the community because they’re very community-oriented,” Jensen said.

“They’re very successful.”

Jensen said he expects the radio station to continue to play classic rock songs and cover more local sports under new ownership.

The Massmans own KDWA-1460 in Hastings.

Jensen, who has owned or been part-owner of eight radio stations, will no longer own a radio station once the sale is complete.

Jensen sold Austin-based KQAQ 970 AM to Grand Forks-based Real Presence Radio in April.

He has owned Power 96 for 17 years after purchasing the station from Cumulus Media in 2001.

“I usually don’t keep things 17 years,” Jensen said. “That’s kind of a long pull for me.”

He said he has enjoyed the advertisers and listeners to his station.

“It’s a good time (to sell), because he’s obviously very interested in the market,” Jensen said.
