An Albert Lea Level 3 sex offender who threatened to harm a woman he knew in January pleaded guilty Wednesday in Freeborn County District Court.

Cody Padraic Trott, 28, pleaded guilty to felony threats of violence.

Court documents state Trott was charged after officers were dispatched Jan. 3 to a business parking lot in Freeborn County. Upon arriving, the victim said Trott strangled her and took her vehicle after making allegations against her.

Trott attacked her by jumping on her in the vehicle, grabbing her throat and threatening to kill her. She reportedly stated she felt like she was going to lose consciousness and her vision became altered during the incident.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 28.

Trott is expected to be sentenced to two years in prison.

Trott was charged with domestic assault by strangulation, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and fifth-degree controlled substance possession, but those charges will be dismissed at sentencing.

In a separate file, Trott pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor domestic abuse no-contact order violation.

In a third file, Trott pleaded guilty to three of the 17 misdemeanor domestic abuse no-contact order violation charges he faced. Sentencing for both of those files is also scheduled for Dec. 28.
