State Trooper Doug Rauenhorst advised another trooper he had “reasonable suspicion that the occupants were transporting controlled substances and advised that he would issue a warning for the traffic violation,” court documents state.

Rauenhorst approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, while the other trooper approached the passenger side. Enriquez allegedly began exiting the vehicle when the trooper opened the passenger door, and Smith rapidly accelerated the vehicle, court documents state.

Rauenhorst was reportedly partially inside the Jeep as it accelerated and was drug alongside the vehicle as it began to travel eastbound.

“Trooper (Rauenhorst) ordered Smith to stop the vehicle and attempted to shift the Jeep into the park,” court documents state. “Enriquez put the vehicle back into gear and assaulted (Rauenhorst) with his hands in an attempt to force (the trooper) out of the vehicle. Trooper (Rauenhorst) was concerned that if he fell out of the vehicle, he could be severely injured or killed.”

Rauenhorst was injured after falling from the Jeep onto I-90.  He was taken to United Hospital District in Blue Earth and released Friday morning.

Law enforcement agencies pursued the Jeep into Freeborn County, and during the chase, court documents state Smith and Enriquez threw approximately 15.96 pounds of marijuana bricks out the window.

Law enforcement suspended the chase after the Jeep exited the interstate into Albert Lea due to safety concerns. The Jeep was later found unoccupied in the parking lot behind Brick Furniture, and Smith and Enriquez were arrested without incident at Sportsman’s Tavern.

Anthony Enriquez

Court documents state during a search of the vehicle, law enforcement saw the warning for the traffic violation issued by Rauenhorst, along with a Minnesota State Patrol stocking hat, drug packaging, luggage and Smith’s driver’s license.

Judge Troy Timmerman set conditional bail for Enriquez and Smith at $100,000.

Their next court appearances are scheduled for Dec. 31.
