Albert Lea High School choirs will celebrate the power of music in students’ lives at their concert at 7 p.m. Monday in the high school auditorium, according to a press release.
The concert will feature the Celebr8 choir, Tiger choir, varsity choir and concert choir. The choirs are directed by Nathan Lange and Diane Heaney and accompanied by Bob Tewes. Tickets for the concert are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors and are available at the door. Music family concert passes are also good for the concert.
The concert is a special concert, since March has been designated as Music in Our Schools Month by the National Association for Music Education, the release states. This year’s theme is “All Music, All People.”
Even with all the missed days of school this winter, the students are ready to perform and share their music with the community, the release states.
Students involved with music in Albert Lea are highly involved in many other school activities, including sports, mock trial, drama, robotics, National Honor Society and numerous other clubs and organizations.
About 40 members of the choirs participated in the solo and ensemble contest Jan. 19 at Lakeville High School. The Celebr8 and Tiger choir students will travel to Chanhassen Dinner Theatre to see a professional production of “Mamma Mia” in late March.
The varsity choir will travel to the Ordway to see a production from Minnesota Opera and members of the concert choir will depart for a choral tour to San Antonio and Oklahoma City over spring break.
Choir students’ names can often be found on honor roll lists for every school term. They serve as positive community role models and ambassadors for Albert Lea wherever they perform, the release states.
