Gladys Johanson, 1917-2019

Gladys M. Johanson, 101, of Wells died Thursday, March 7, 2019, at her home in Wells surrounded by family. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. The Rev. Meg Sander will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Wells in the spring. Memorials are preferred to hospice, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is assisting the family. Gladys Johanson

Gladys was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Dunbar Township, Faribault County, the daughter of Herman H. and Wilhelmina (Miller) Vogelsang. Gladys attended country school near Matawan.

She was united in marriage to Wilbur A. Johanson on Nov. 18, 1937, at Dunbar Church. To this union seven daughters and seven sons were born. Gladys was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Gladys is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur; brothers Roger, Elroy, Melvin (Bertha) and Milton (Grace); sisters Mabel (Leslie) Buelow and Ellen (Arnold) Meyer; son-in-law, Roger H. Schultz; daughter-in-law, Janice Johanson; and granddaughter, Jennifer Johanson.

She is survived by her 14 children and their spouses, Kenyon of Richfield, Corrine Schultz of Albert Lea, Joan (Jack) Kuntz of Miles City, Montana, Jerald Johanson of Friends Wood, Texas, Glenn (Janet) Johanson of Wells, Russell (Connie) Johanson of Ramsey, Vila Stump of San Diego, Bruce Johanson of Wells, Emily (Jimmy) Ness of Alma, Wisconsin, Mark (Meredith) Johanson of Buffalo, Susan Johanson (Guy Baldwin) of St. Paul, Dawn (Frank) Dutton of Denver, Richard (Jody) Johanson of St. Michael and Kimberly (Steve) Zimmer of Castro Valley, California; 35 grandchildren and their spouses; 47 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
