5 things to do this weekend

1. Easter egg hunt

Albert Lea will host its 16th annual Easter egg hunt Saturday at Albert Lea City Arena. The event is free, and guests are asked to bring their own baskets for eggs. The Easter Bunny will also make an appearance. Children up to 4 years old and children with special needs will hunt for eggs from 9:30 to 10 a.m., with children ages 5 to 11 years old hunting for eggs at 10 a.m.

 

2. Spring BockFest

Northwood’s Worth Brewing Co. will have its annual Spring BockFest this weekend with a full day of festivities Saturday. “Beer is the boss” of the party, which will be accompanied by food and music as well. The day begins at noon and continues until 11 p.m. Live music from Joshua Sinclair will start at 4 p.m. Different special release beers will be tapped, such as the Cocoa Stout from the bar at noon and Father Filbert in the biergarten at 3 p.m., among others. The Beer Triathlon with teams of two competing in bags, beer pong and hammerschlagen will return this year, with the winning team being crowned at 9 p.m. Other events include brewery tours, hourly giveaways and a mug club membership raffle.

 

3. Chili cook-off

The Albert Lea American Legion Riders will host a chili cook-off, soup supper and live auction from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Albert Lea American Legion. For the chili cook-off, guests will be able to sample them for free and vote for a winner. Donations will be accepted and proceeds will benefit the annual scholarship fund. Those who would like to participate in the cook-off are asked to bring a crockpot of chili to the Legion by 5 p.m. There is a $5 entry fee.

 

4. ‘Bedroom Farce’

Albert Lea Community Theatre’s latest production opens this week. In “Bedroom Farce,” a couple whose marriage is on the rocks inflicts their miseries on their nearest and dearest — three couples whose own relationships are tenuous at best. The comedy takes place sequentially in the three different couples’ bedrooms during one night of codependence and dysfunction. Showings are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and April 24-28 at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, with the April 28 showing being a 2 p.m. matinee. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-877-730-3144, or at actonbroadway.com, the box office or Albert Lea Convention & Visitors Bureau.

 

5. Basket night and gun raffle

The Southern Gateway Chapter of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association will have a basket night and gun raffle fundraiser Saturday at the Albert Lea Eagles Club. There will be hamburgers, chicken strips and brats, with meal tickets available at the door. The event is open to the public, with raffles beginning at 5 p.m. and baskets available from 5 to 8 p.m. Funds raised will be used on local projects, according to a press release.
