The Albert Lea Art Center to showcase work of students
Artwork from students across Albert Lea Area Schools will be on display starting Sunday for the annual All-Student Art Show at The Albert Lea Art Center.
The show in recent years has been at Northbridge Mall, but with the purchase of the new Art Center location on Broadway, the organization decided to move it there to bring in more families who have not visited the center before, said Tom Mullen, who is in charge of the gallery shows.
Mullen said all levels of work will be on display in the show, from the elementary through high school levels, along with the work of students from the Area Learning Center and the Adult Learning Center.
He said each school is encouraged to display whatever they can, though this year has been a little more difficult because of the time snow days interfered with completing projects.
A variety of work will be shown, including sculptures, drawings, paintings and photographs, to name a few.
“It’s delightful to see what kids can do and how well they can do the artwork,” he said.
He estimated between 700 and 800 pieces of art would be on display and noted it is the Art Center’s most popular show of the year.
“It’s a good show for everyone,” Mullen said.
The show provides a wide scope of the work taking place throughout the community and features different projects each year.
An open house for the show will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. There will be refreshments donated by Hy-Vee available for attendees.
The show will continue through April 27.
The Art Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays at 101 S. Broadway.
