The Southwest Middle School seventh-grade team opened its season with a doubleheader sweep of Waseca on April 9, according to a press release.
In the first game, Michael Olson, Jack Skinness and Henry Kuiters held Waseca to two runs in the 4-2 victory. Drew Carlson knocked in two runs with Tanner Nelson and Kuiters each plating one.
In the second game, Colby Banks pitched four innings to lead his team to a 4-2 victory. Banks, Brennan Gilliam, Devin Truesdell and Erik Streckert each had RBIs for the Tigers.
“It was great to get outside and play some ball,” said coach Tom Jones. “We had some great pitching and made some key plays at the right time.”
The teams will host New Prague on April 25 on the Southwest fields.
