The Freeborn County Corn and Soybean Growers Association recently awarded six scholarships — four $1,000 scholarships and two $4,200 Ag Futures of America scholarships.
According to a press release, the four $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Nate Orban, Ryan Hansen, Levi Sorensen and Mackenzie Hanssen. Gigi Otten and Halee Miller were awarded the Ag Futures of America scholarships.
Students selected for the Ag Futures of America program have the opportunity to attend a leadership conference this fall, which is hosted by large agricultural companies, focusing on developing future leaders in agriculture.
Mariah Posthumus, last year’s Ag Futures of America scholarship winner, will also return to the Ag Futures of America conference this fall.
Scholarship funds are raised in August when the Freeborn County Ag commodity groups host a fundraising golf tournament and are awarded to graduating high school seniors pursuing careers in agriculture.
The group has hosted a golf tournament for about 16 years and has awarded scholarships for about 14 years, the press release states.
