Alice Daffinrud, 1917-2019

Alice E. Daffinrud, 101, of Albert Lea passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service with a visitation beginning one hour prior. The Rev. Shane Koepke will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea.

Alice was born Dec. 1, 1917, in Thief River Falls to Adolf and Victoria (Olson) Bailey. She went to school in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School.

On Oct. 30, 1938, Alice married Howard Jacobson in Freeborn. To this union, their son, Rodney, was born.

Alice spent 12 years working for Wilson & Co. Much of her professional life was spent at Cornick Nursing Home, where she spent 20 years as a cook and another 20 years as a housekeeper. She also cleaned private homes for many years. Alice’s husband, Howard, passed away at the age of 59.

In 1976 Alice was wed to her second husband, George Daffinrud, at Freeborn Congregational Church. George passed away the next year.

Alice was honored to be the oldest member of Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, spending 52 years on the altar guild. Alice also taught Sunday school and was involved in many church activities. Alice loved bowling, gardening and being involved in the Eagles Club, where she volunteered and was on the marching drill team for many years. She also loved polka music and her many trips up north fishing.

Alice is survived by her son, Rodney (Alice), of Albert Lea; special niece, Barb Gilman; grandchildren Denise (David) Schlarbaum, Gwen (David) Jacobson, Heather (Mark) Jacobson and Lee (Mao) Jacobson; great-grandchildren Sandy (Zack) Alexander, Ellen (Jared) Hernandez, Hanna Moran and Justin Moran; great-great-grandchildren Grayson, Lola, Kein, Damon and Benjamin; her sister-in-law, Jane Bailey, of Aurora; and many other nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents Adolf and Victoria; her husband, Howard, in 1971; her husband, George, in 1977; her siblings Muriel Cornick (Field), Robert Bailey, Morton Bailey and Lillian Christ (Gene); granddaughter, Jesse Rae; and great-great-grandson, Grant.
